I listed seven ideas in my journal on what to do with the source image. The last idea "rat could spin the sign like a hamster" was the winner. I was a bit reluctant to create this "all source" animation because I would have to draw the rat in various running poses. Keeping it simple was the key. I reshaped the body, moved the feet around a little and animated the tail. I avoided the mouth area. Fortunately people posted their silly videos of spinning hamsters online at youtube.com so I was able to get an idea of what to capture in my piece. This piece captures the essenece of what a contest entry strives for in that it was "all source," simple, and theme based. Rodent Exercise placed 1st out of 62 entries.
